The beer hall that started it all will be celebrating Oktoberfest in true German style. September 1st-6th, HofbräuhausColumbus hosts 6 days of family fun at its annual Oktoberfest celebration.
What do Hofbräuhaus and Oktoberfest have in common?
Munich’s famous Hofbräuhaus, was originally founded in 1589 by the Duke of Bavaria, Wilhelm V. as the brewery for only the Royalty.
The Oktoberfest tradition started in 1810 to celebrate the marriage of Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig to Princess Therese. To allow the commoners to partake in the ceremonies, the noble couple decided to organize a grand wedding party for its subjects on some grazing land outside the Munich city gates—and some 40,000 happy Bavarians showed up for the fun and to partake in the Royalty’s beer of the Hofbräuhaus.
King Ludwig I. proved himself to be very benevolent and in 1828, he opened up the Hofbräuhaus to the public, marking the onset of operation of the Hofbräuhaus as we know it today.
Now you, too, can partake of the bier of the Bavarian Royalty at Hofbräuhaus Columbus at 800 Goodale Street, in Grandview Yard. Brewing the craft beer according to the Purity Law of 1610, Reinheitsgebot. The only ingredients used for the brewing of beer must be Barley, Hops, Yeast and Water.
Enjoy the traditions from Germany that have made Hofbräuhaus famous. From the decorated rooms in the building to the craft beer that is brewed on-site, the excellent German fare, and the live entertainment. There is a large Bier Hall with tables and benches with the traditional communal seating, the quieter Bier Stubbe, and an outdoor Bier Garten.
